Reinhard Hagen was born in Lustenau, Austria. He studied at the music schools in Lustenau and Bregenz, and then went to Graz, where he studied electronic music and clarinet. In 1988, he began to teach music in Feldkirch. He also was director of the Wolfurt town band.
